things to do in badrinath

Badrinath is one of the holiest and most important towns in the Hindu religion and mythology. It’s a part of the holy Char Dham Yatra that’s believed to grant salvation to anyone who completes it. As a result, it’s not surprising that millions of Hinduism followers flock to this town every year to visit the Badrinath Temple and seek the blessings of Lord Badrinarayan.

However, the Badriath Dham temple isn’t the only site to visit in this town. There are a lot of other things to do in Badrinath and a lot of other places to visit, and in this blog, we’re going to take a look at some of them. Let’s begin!

1. Visit to Shri Badrinath Ji Temple

The topmost priority of every Badrinath tourist is, of course, a visit to Shri Badrinath Ji Temple. One of the seven temples dedicated to Lord Badri (and also the holiest among them all), this temple is open only six months of the year, and during that period, it’s visited by millions of Hindu pilgrims. Housing a 1-foot idol of Lord Vishnu inside it, the temple has a multicoloured entrance gate known as the Singhdwar and a gold-gilt roof.

2. Tapt Kund Hot Springs

Believed to be the home of Lord Agni, the Tapt Kund is a miracle of nature. Located on the banks of the Alaknanda River, it’s a hot water spring that goes contrary to the rest of the climate of Badrinath. While the rest of the Badrinath and Alaknanda River is extremely cold, the water in Tapt Kund remains hot, and no one knows how. Taking a dip in these waters is believed to cure people of their illnesses.

3. Mana Village Visit

The Mana Village in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, is special in so many ways. It’s said to be the first and last village of India at the Indo-Tibetan border. Located only 3 km from Badrinath, it serves as the starting point for many trekking routes and also houses a number of other spiritually significant landmarks that we’re going to mention later in this blog. Inhabited by the Bhotiya community, this village has preserved its cultural heritage really well with stone houses, unique festivals, and a distinct way of life.

4. Vyas Gufa

The Vyas Gufa in Badrinath is believed to be the site where Maharshi Ved Vyas wrote the Mahabharat. Located in the Mana village itself, the cave today houses a small temple of Sage Ved Vyas along with other deities. Besides the writing of the Mahabharata, this cave is also famous for being the site where Sage Vyas divided Hindu religious scriptures (Vedas) into four parts and where Adi Shankaracharya met him to discuss about Brahma Sutras.

5. Brahma Kapal

Located at a walking distance from the Badrinath Temple, this place is believed to be the site where Brahma’s 5th head fell after Lord Shiva severed it with his trident. The place is believed to rid people of all doshas related to birth, marriage, or Vastu. It’s also believed that performing the last rites or Pind Daan here spares people from the unending cycle of birth and death, giving them moksha or salvation.

6. Bheem Pul

As suggested by its name, this Pul or bridge is believed to have been built by Bheem, one of the Pandavas, to cross the river Saraswati during their journey to heaven. Draupadi was unable to cross the river, so Bheem threw a massive rock between the two mountains through which the river passes to create a natural bridge on which Draupadi could walk easily to cross the river.

7. Vasudhara Falls

A beautiful cascading waterfall located 8 km from the Badrinath Temple, the Vasudhara waterfalls are known to captivate people with their stunning beauty and surroundings. The height, the force, and the sound of these waterfalls deliver an astonishing experience, while the natural views provide a tranquil environment for a retreat amidst nature.
